TEACH

We are currently looking for new Teaching Artists to work in our New York-based in-school residencies and after-school programs. Prospective teachers should have at least 2 years of experience working with kids, either in a classroom or alternative educational setting, and should be VERY comfortable being dramatic, silly, and ready to think on their feet. Our Teaching Artists work as a team to engage kids using our curriculum, which is packed full of Viking costumes, giant plush monster attacks, secretive extra-terrestrial organizations, and evil monarchs bent on taking over your classroom. Experience teaching writing is not required but is highly valued, so please highlight any such experience in your cover letter.

Spanish speakers (and other dual language speakers) are especially encouraged to apply. Please make a special note of your language skills when e-mailing us.

Q: Is this the audition for the Story Pirates acting company?
A: Nope! This is for teaching artists ONLY. If you are interested in being in the acting company, there is a separate audition process:

Q: Is there a training process for teaching artists?
A: Yes, training will take place from late September to mid-October. Since the training is unpaid, new teaching artists are only expected to come to a few sessions, and will be able to choose between sessions on Sunday afternoons or Wednesday evenings to best fit their schedules.

Q: Would Story Pirates fit into my schedule?
A: Most of our teaching opportunities are for short term (1-7 day) residencies, and we match teaching artists up with assignments based on their availability. While we do have some after school residencies, there will be many more opportunities if you have flexibility to take on residencies during the school day as well.
